RoomRay

Privacy policy

RoomRay is made by Just Sanity Limited, who is the data controller for anything you send us. Last updated 25 August 2026.

The short version

RoomRay keeps your surveys on your device: and in your own iCloud Drive if you are signed in to iCloud, so they reach your other devices. There is no RoomRay account, no server of ours, no analytics and no tracking. A survey reaches us only when you send it.

What the app stores, and where

Everything a survey contains stays in the app's own storage on your device:

iCloud Drive. If your device is signed in to iCloud, surveys are stored in RoomRay's own container in your iCloud Drive, under Apple's iCloud terms, and sync to your other devices signed in to the same account. Apple can see that data in the way it can see any iCloud Drive file; we cannot. Large scan-recovery files stay on the device and are not synced. If you are not signed in, surveys live only on the device.

If you delete a survey in the app it is deleted from the device and from iCloud Drive. Deleting the app removes the local copy; the iCloud copy remains until you delete it there. Export anything you need to keep if you rely on neither.

What leaves the device

Three things, all of which you start:

When you export or share a survey. A .scanpack, PDF or CSV goes wherever you send it: AirDrop, mail, Files. We do not receive a copy.

When you look up a building footprint. If you ask RoomRay to fetch the outline of the building you are surveying, the coordinate is sent to the mapping service to find it. The address is not sent, and no other survey data is sent.

When you send us a scan. There is a "Send us this scan" option for reporting problems. It is never automatic. By default it removes the address and postcode, the GPS position and every photograph before building the file, it lists exactly what it removed and what it is sending, and nothing goes anywhere until you choose how to send it.

Permissions

Camera and LiDAR: to scan rooms and to take the photographs you attach. Images used for scanning are processed on the device and are not stored unless you take a photo.

Motion: the barometer, to tell which floor the phone is on so floors stack at their measured height. Used only during a scan; nothing is stored beyond the floor heights.

Location, while in use: for the compass heading that orients your plan to north, and for the building-footprint lookup. Optional: decline it and the app works, but the plan is not oriented and solar gain is reported as missing rather than estimated.

If you are surveying somebody else's home

The survey is about their house, and most of it is personal data about them, not about you.

What we do with a scan you send us

Fix the thing that went wrong, and stop it happening again. A scan you send becomes part of the test suite, so the problem it shows cannot come back silently. Because the raw capture is kept, a scan sent today keeps improving the app as the pipeline improves.

We do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. Ask us to delete it and we will.

During the beta

RoomRay is in testing. Its measurements have not yet been validated against a tape, and the heat loss figures it produces are marked accordingly in the app. Do not give them to a customer or use them in a quotation yet.
